The Team Lead, Career Education, leads the activities of the Career Education team in the Careers & Experience Department, as well as holding their own responsibilities as a Career Counsellor. The Team Lead supervises the individual members of the team, ensures that the strategic objectives of the team are met, develops and implements the assessment plan, and oversees the non-salary budget for the team. In consultation with the Director, Careers & Experience, and in collaboration with team members, they manage the development and delivery of a wide range of services and programs to support undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral scholars and recent Alumni.  Due to the sizable number of potential clients requiring assistance, programs and services need to be effective and efficient both in type and in delivery method. The assistance provided covers a range of career-related concerns, including helping clients to connect their degree to future work, career decision-making, self-assessment, navigating equity, diversity, and inclusion concerns, and addressing mental health within a career context. Amid complexities magnified by different demographics, workforce changes, and student approaches to career exploration and decision-making, the Team Lead ensures all students have access to meaningful career education resources.

Qualifications

Education:
-   Master's degree in counselling (e.g., Master of Education/Master of Arts in Counselling, Master of Social Work)
-   Registration (or eligibility for) with a regulated health profession (e.g. College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers).
-   Career Counselling qualifications (e.g., course work, thesis, internship) are preferrred

Experience:
-   5 years’ experience in the career counselling/career services field
-   2 years’ experience in Student Affairs
-   3 years’ experience leading staff and teams
-   Experience in a counselling environment in which the primary role was delivery of one-on-one counselling (preferably around career-related issues) and/or facilitation of group counselling sessions and workshops
-   Experience administering and interpreting career assessments
-   Experience working with post-secondary students at both the graduate and undergraduate level preferred
-   Experience working with an international student population preferred

-   Strong supervisory and coaching skills to facilitate staff development and performance evaluation
-   Ability to establish effective routines for excellent communication with all members of a team to maximize productivity
-   Ability to motivate others to maintain quality services and programming in a constantly changing environment
-   Judgment, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a consultative and collaborative leadership approach to addressing issues and opportunities
-   Ability to develop and deliver innovative programs based on best practices, and in response to emerging student and industry needs
-   Well-developed public speaking/communication and facilitation skills across a diverse spectrum of stakeholders (e.g., staff, faculty, students, partners)
-   Exceptional organizational skills, including managing multiple competing priorities and an ability to adapt quickly to emerging priorities
-   Demonstrated ability to influence at all levels within the university
-   A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills
-   Intermediate skills with relevant computing applications (e.g. Microsoft Office,
Western Connect) including web applications
-   Ability to understand basic research data; quantitative/qualitative research skills an asset
