Position Summary

Provide the integration of McGill's values, standards, and goals with respect to student life and learning into University policies, operations and procedures. Ease students’ integration into University life, support students’ learning and guide them towards a rewarding student life experience by offering a broad range of services in a supportive environment. Provide student admissions and enrolment services for undergraduate, graduate, certificates and diploma programs. Participate in student recruitment fairs, student exchange programs, convocation and graduation activities. Oversee government reporting and compliance. Offer a variety of student services including career planning, campus life and engagement, scholarships and student aid, counselling and tutorial, health and mental health, international student services, immigration, services for students with disabilities, religious life, and other programs. Offer student affairs services including advising, student records, registration and exam and invigilation activities.  Offer programs related to athletics and recreation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Liaising, networking and developing business relationships with the mining industry, engineering companies and mining-related suppliers to establish new company relationships and maintain existing connections, yielding COOP Work Term placements for mining engineering undergraduate students in locations in Canada, the US and internationally.
  • Administering corporate packages that can be used to promote the department of Mining and Materials as well as the Engineering Career Center services to prospective companies.
  • Attracting company sponsorships based on the level of service/access/exposure to students.
  • Providing guidance and support to students, organizing mining-related industry visits.
  • Initiating student group involvement in activities such as the McGill Tech Fair, Faculty of Engineering’s events, workshops, and business development.
  • Promoting the Mining Engineering COOP Program.
  • Designing and delivering career education workshops as well as in-class presentations.
  • Responsibility for placing over 100 students in co-op positions
  • PR/Recruiting of new undergraduate students from high schools and CEGEPS.
  • Handling of committee work, statistics, reporting and administration, while supporting strategic planning and fundraising activities as required

Education and Experience

  • Undergraduate Degree (Mining/Engineering preferred)
  • One (1) year related experience (Mining/Engineering preferred)

Other Qualifying Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated networking and organizational skills and ability to multi-task. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and meet frequent and regular deadlines. Experience in career placements in the engineering industry. Demonstrated ability to listen and to assist students. Public speaking an asset. Familiar with Excel/databases, and ideally website software. English and French, spoken and written.
