Salary Range:

$100,203 - $133,602






Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Director, Coop, Career and Experiential Learning is accountable for effectively managing the delivery of co-op programs, career services and for coordinating college-wide Work Integrated Learning activities. The Director is responsible for long term strategic and annual operational planning and budget control, ensuring on-going process and productivity improvements, managing staff performance and promoting Co-op, Career and WIL internally and externally. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

• Maintain a high level of staff performance through effective recruiting, selecting, training, motivating and performance management

• Provide direction, advice, coaching and support to direct reports

• Ensure appropriate professional development options re available to staff and encourages participation in those activities provided by the College

• Ensure area is structured to maximize efficiency and effectiveness, takes advantage of synergies that exist between departments and opportunities for staff cross training

• Establish and manages productivity and process improvement goals for Co-op, Career and WIL activities to increase efficiency, improve customer service while operating within the department budget

• Continuously seek opportunities to innovate and to demonstrate leadership and best practices within the College sector

• Develop polices and procedures to ensure academic integrity in Co-op and Experiential learning

• Provide feedback and advice on new co-op programs and revision of existing programs (currently supports over 6,000 coop students annually at 7 campuses)

• Ensure Co-op is appropriately represented on all co-op Program Advisory Committees (PACs), accreditation boards, annual program reviews

• Ensure all Coop related courses are current and relevant at the diploma, degree and graduate certificate levels

• Ensure appropriate use of technology to support Co-op Education mandate which includes Georgian Connects, LMS, My Career, social media and department website

• Ensure Career and employment advising are of high quality and available to students at all campuses

• Work with Deans/Associate Dean’s to ensure services are promoted to students and meet specific program need (career maps)

• Coordinate the administrative requirements of WIL such as insurance and promoting safety in the workplace

• Advocate and raise profile for Co-op, Career and WIL and reinforces importance to student success and retention as well as graduate employment

• Oversee marketing and communication strategies for coop programs and career services to targeted students, alumni, employers and college administrators, faculty and staff

• Develop strategies to build, maintain and enhance relationships with employers , coop programs, students and graduates

• Build relationships with executive team, Deans/Associate Dean’s, program coordinators, VPA office and other administrators, Student Services Directors/Manager’s and external organizations (Honda, Ontario Hydro, Simcoe County)

• Provide support to employers seeking to recruit Georgian students and works with team to arrange and Georgian presence for career fairs

• Develop multi-year strategic plans for Co-op, Career and WIL initiatives to align with the College’s business plan

• Develop and implement annual operating plan

• Monitor departmental performance and measures year end results

• Develop and maximizes revenue and ensures costs are controlled within budget

• Provide leadership to develop and implement quality work integrated learning opportunities for students

• Coordinate WIL activities to ensure standards are developed and maintained related to learning outcomes, employer participation, student reflection and evaluation


• Successfully completed a Master’s degree is required, preferably in Business Administration, with an undergraduate degree and/or diploma in marketing, human resource management, or a relevant field of study

• Nine years’ experience in co-operative education or career services in a supervisory or management capacity preferably in a post-secondary environment

• Knowledge of co-operative education

• Experience in an industry dealing with employment trends and forecasting labour market conditions

• Exceptional customer service focus with an understanding of the needs of key stakeholders (students, academic areas and employers)

• Demonstrated networking, relationship building, negotiation and conflict resolution skills

• Strong project management and analytical skills

• Leadership, management and supervisory skills including experience in developing and managing a budget

• Excellent communication and presentation skills and the ability to deal with complex situations with tact and diplomacy

• Computer skills including MS Office and experience with a Student Information System (Banner and Orbis preferred)

• Ability to travel to other campuses as well as attend meetings outside of regular office hours

• Memberships in various organizations may be required (EWO Education at Work Ontario; CEWIL - Co-operative Education and Work Integrated Learning; HOC – Heads of Co-op which is the College provincial co-op group;) and active participation in the Conference Board of Canada – International partnerships conferences
