Term: 2 years

The Career Advisor will operate within the Centre for Career Action and will focus on researching and creating content to facilitate and enhance Arts students’ understanding of career preparation and progression. There will, in addition, be opportunities for them to engage with co-op staff and students in group and individual settings to ensure depth of understanding of the co-op services, resources and Arts student needs. The Career Advisor will utilize their career development and labour market/industry knowledge to inform Arts-specific co-op preparation and student support materials.


  • Undergraduate university degree required
  • Career Development Professional Certificate (or equivalent) strongly preferred
  • Three years of experience using counselling/advising approaches and skills (preferably in a career development context)
  • Knowledge of professional/graduate school application processes is preferred
  • Knowledge of co-operative education program/processes is preferred
  • Experience facilitating group presentations and workshops
  • Ability to develop career education curriculum and resources preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and advising skills
  • Drive to motivate and educate students and bring a customer-service focus to the role
  • Drive for, and commitment to, continuous learning and personal research, reading and professional development as a member of a career advising community of practice
  • Career Advisors are problem-solvers and team players
  • Knowledge of digital resources for effective group engagement (e.g., polling platforms) and communications of personal brand and skills/learning (e.g., PebblePad e-portfolio; LinkedIn)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, Google Docs, and other online based communications (e.g., Skype)
  • Weekend, evening and/or irregular hours/schedules required
