Faculty of Arts Work Experience Co-op Program Receives National Recognition
Canadian Association for Co-operative Education (CAFCE) accreditation recognizes highest quality of post-secondary co-operative education programs
May 10, 2017 – The Arts Work Experience Co-op Program in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Alberta has earned its stripes as a nationally-accredited program.
After a rigorous application process with the Canadian Association for Co-operative Education (CAFCE), the Faculty of Arts joins 36 accredited institutions across Canada. This accreditation demonstrates the faculty’s commitment to upholding the recognized standards for co-operative education experiences across the country by providing a positive and enriching experience for students and employers.
"I am pleased to see that our Co-op Program has been recognized for the high-quality experience it offers our students," said Lesley Cormack, Dean of Arts. "Students gain invaluable work experience that complements the skills they develop through their chosen field of academic study. At the same time, employers benefit from the fresh, innovative ideas and creative approaches that students bring to the workplace."
“As Chair of the Accreditation Council in 2016/17, and on behalf the CAFCE board of directors, let me congratulate the University of Alberta on its accreditation of their programs,” said Muriel Klemetski, Accreditation Chair. “We commend the University of Alberta for its ongoing leadership in Canadian co-operative education and adherence to the CAFCE criteria and standards of quality.”
The Arts Work Experience Co-op Program gives students the opportunity to gain invaluable paid professional work experience to help advance their future professions, as well as new knowledge and skills to explore and evaluate future employment opportunities. It also allows students to bring a hands-on perspective to their final years of study at the University of Alberta.
