  • Lead a team of co-op advisors, employer relations consultants and employment officers focused on providing excellent service and support to co-op students and employers
  • Allocate responsibility for 54 co-op programs, 3,700 co-op students and more than 2,000 annual work terms among staff and facilitate collaboration among roles to ensure student success and employer satisfaction
  • Maintain a high level of staff performance through effective recruiting, selection, training, motivating and performance management
  • Ensure staff have the role clarity, resources and support required to be successful in their positions
  • Develop annual performance goals for each staff member; goals must be measurable and align with the fiscal year goals and priorities of the Co-op department and Co-operative Education, Career Services and Work-Integrated Learning
  • Manage the ongoing enhancement of the Co-op and Career Preparation (CDEV) course
  • Support co-op advisors to prepare co-op students for 21st century employment – resumes, cover letters, job search and interview skills
  • Support employer relations consultants to take responsibility for developing new and managing current employer relationships; develop jobs for an assigned number of co-op programs; consult with employers on co-op program and student quality as well as current and projected employer recruiting needs
  • Oversee the development and implementation of annual Co-op Business and Job Development Plans
  • Collaborate with other college departments to provide comprehensive services to employers, for example, career services, corporate training, applied research, practicum services, Conestoga Career Centre
  • Provide program feedback and recommendations to chairs, program coordinators and Program Advisory Committees (PACs)
  • Provide advice and guidance to staff on dealing with employer issues and complaints
  • Establish guidelines for approving the suitability of co-op work terms to ensure each opportunity meets the learning outcomes of the work term course
  • Maintain and revise as needed, co-op policies and procedures and the co-op student contract
  • Support employment officers to provide co-op employers with job posting, interview scheduling, job offer and tax credit letter services and support; provide co-op students with application, interviewing and work term agreement services and support; track employment rates throughout each job search term and take action to address gaps
  • Oversee the development and implementation of an Integrated Marketing Communication Plan for Co-operative Education
  • Working with the Coordinator, Marketing and Communications develop strategies to market new co-op programs; identify and target employer organizations and associations to raise awareness of Conestoga’s co-op programs and the benefits of hiring; ensure the co-op department is represented at events and makes presentations
  • In collaboration with academic areas, survey employer contacts regarding proposed new (or revised) co-op programs to determine interest in hiring, specific recruiting needs, preferences for work term length, labour market capacity and more
  • Remain current on regional, provincial and national labour market trends and analyze their impact on co-op employment opportunities; use this information in planning and share appropriately with chairs and program coordinators
  • Take advantage of opportunities to promote all Conestoga employer services, such as corporate training, continuing education, applied research and development
  • Ensure maximum use of the MyCareer (Conestoga’s online recruiting system) modules, including Connections, the customer relationship management database
  • Participate on the Orbis Communications User Group
  • Encourage chairs, program coordinators and faculty to access MyCareer for information about co-op jobs and to assist in encouraging student participation in job search
  • Participate in the Department of Co-operative Education, Career Services and Work-Integrated Learning multi-year strategic planning process
  • Work with staff to develop individual business development plans and progress reports
  • Prepare a fiscal year-end report on Co-operative Education results and activities


  • Four year degree in business or management; Master’s degree preferred
  • Seven years relevant experience in a similar role
  • Experience managing in a unionized environment is considered an asset
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Ability to build teams and manage change
  • Excellent communication, networking and relationship building skills
  • Knowledge of sales and marketing techniques
  • Experience using technology to deliver services
  • Understanding of customer relationship management databases
  • Knowledge of labour market trends and employer recruiting needs
  • Experience working with international students or immigrants to secure employment
