Staying in Touch

Once settled into your new location, provide your co-op coordinator with your address, telephone number and Skype address, along with the contact information of your employer.

Keeping in touch via telephone may be very expensive. A few options to consider would be to sign up for a long distance plan, use calling cards or use your Skype account, if reliable in the area of your travel.

You are encouraged to share your experiences with family, friends and the institutions involved in establishing your work term. This can be accomplished through a number of social media tools (Facebook, Twitter, blogs, etc.) and email.

Even if this is not your first time away from home, you may still experience homesickness during your international work term. Keep in touch with your family and friends while building new relationships with co-workers. Keep yourself busy with getting to know your new city and perhaps volunteering to meet new friends.
