Associate Director, Work-Integrated Learning & Neurodiversity Initiative,

Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning

Position Overview

The Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning invites applications for an Associate Director, Work-Integrated Learning & Neurodiversity Initiative. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 4 years (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Under the leadership of the Director, Experiential & Work-Integrated Learning and guidance from the Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) and Neurodiversity Steering Committee, the Associate Director will work with students, staff, faculty, senior leaders and key external partners to develop and lead the WIL and Neurodiversity initiative, a four-year initiative funded by The Sinneave Family Foundation focused on systems-level change to transform accessibility and embrace universal design for learning (UDL) in WIL activities. Additionally, the incumbent works closely with industry and community leaders to transform practices for recruiting and mentoring students in work-integrated learning, with a strong focus on neurodivergent students.

The incumbent is a strategic thinker and a relationship builder. They connect UCalgary's WIL practitioners across the disciplines, document current practices for supporting neurodiverse students in WIL, engage the network in learning and development opportunities related to neurodiversity and UDL, and influence systems-level change to transform accessibility in WIL. Both on and off our university campuses, the Associate Director builds and sustains relationships with employers in order to 1) increase awareness of neurodiversity in the workplace; 2) identify potential WIL placements; and 3) identify champions for onboarding students of all neurologies. The Associate Director stewards the relationship with the funder. They also build and sustain relationships with students, employers and industry leaders, university leaders and WIL practitioners as well as other UCalgary personnel supporting neurodivergent students.

In addition to managing 3 support staff, the Associate Director designs a model for engaging students as partners through the life of the project, prioritizing the engagement of students with lived experience with neurodiversity. Students are engaged in all stages of the WIL & Neurodiversity Initiative from planning to evaluation.
