ACADEMIC STAFF MEMBER - CO-OPERATIVE EDUCATION

Memorial University of Newfoundland is seeking one Academic Staff Member in Cooperative Education (ASM-CE) for a 3-year term. The position involves collaborating with other ASM-CEs to support undergraduate- and graduate-level cooperative education programs in the Faculty of Science (Biology, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Psychology, Applied Psychological Science and Scientific Computing) and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (Archaeology, Economics, Folklore, Political Science, and iBA).

Co-operative Education in the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is student-centred and focuses on student success. ASM-CEs work with students to support learning and development through meaningful work terms that are relevant to the student’s discipline of study. Co-operative Education students in Science and Humanities and Social Sciences are a diverse group of domestic and international students with varying backgrounds and experience levels.

ASM-CEs also work closely with local and national employers to develop relevant work experiences and mutually beneficial partnerships.

The duties and responsibilities of the ASM-CE include: liaising with faculty members in the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences; developing work term opportunities; facilitating the matching of students with appropriate work term opportunities; monitoring and evaluating students in meeting work term requirements; developing and presenting professional development seminars; providing individual career and professional development counselling; implementing appropriate reflective learning activities; and engaging in academic service.

The successful candidate is expected to have, at minimum, an undergraduate degree, ideally from a discipline in Science or Humanities and Social Sciences. A graduate degree is preferred.

Applicants should have prior work experience with work-integrated learning programming, experiential learning and/or teaching and learning at the post-secondary level. A proven focus on student development and student success is required along with experience working with diverse student populations. Knowledge of the operations and functions of industry, government, and not-for-profit organizations with respect to securing and maintaining student work experience is essential. An ability to provide effective liaison between students, employers and Memorial University is required. The ideal candidate must work well in a collegial team environment.

This position is subject to budgetary approval. Salary will be as stipulated by the MUN/MUNFA Collective Agreement.
